The new addition is the educational part of the Darussalam Foundation and is an extension of the existing religious structure of Masjid Darussalam (the Mosque). In keeping with the owner's desire to blend in the architecture of the new to the existing building, similar Cast Stone were used manufactured by the same company that supplied the material to the original Masjid building. Some of the color and elements were carried from the original structure. However, the nature of the program of an academy with a Gymnasium and other community services in the new building provides that character and expression design that takes its own identity.
The Academy is programmed for K-12 full time learning. It provides a day-care facility. Classrooms with current technology, Library with research support and computer center. It provides separate Fitness Centers for boys and girls, an NCAA sized Basketball court / Gymnasium. The facility provides an entire floor for Women's Prayer spaces to supplement the main Mosque. It provides an equipped Kitchen and dining hall for holding Banquets. The parts of the new facility are designated storm shelter. The construction for the project is nearing completion.

The project is an addition to the current Islamic Foundation North facility of Libertyville. The expansion is motivated by IFN’s desire to serve the community and meet practical needs, to provide a well-rounded service for now and in the future. The expansion shall address the religious needs, the academic and the social needs of the community, in capacity, program and scope. The Board of Trustees of IFN sees to expand the existing facility within its’ 10 acres property.
The design of the project has been guided through a long study of the functional needs, to meet the varied programmatic demands of IFN. The Architectural plans that resulted from the study articulates in graphic terms the programmatic requirements that fulfills the vision of IFN.
The IFN Addition will provide about 66,600 square feet, space on three levels, in addition to the existing mosque building. It is envisioned as two new wings connected to the existing religious wing. The new wings are the academic and the social wing. The academic wing shall provide about 24 classrooms, administrative staff offices, meeting rooms, including offices for IFN organization. There will be an open gallery for use of lecture, instruction, gather and hangout space for students. The social wing shall provide an indoor gymnasium of NCAA size for standard basketball court. It will allow multiple varied games to be held at the same time. Within the gymnasium is a 3-lane track at the second floor, suspended from roof allowing walking, jogging and running, overlooking the basketball court. The gymnasium shall be for both the students and enrolled members of community. The social wing shall have a large dining facility below the gymnasium for the use of community members. The social wing also includes a Computer Center cum library providing internet access and study for the students and for the enrolled member of community. The existing IFN building shall provide the religious function of the community and the educational attendees. The site shall be improved with new parking layout for increased parking and more efficient driveway planning.
The configuration of the new addition makes creative use of a front courtyard and a rear semi-enclosed garden including a secured children’s play area. The vision for the expansion is to provide for not only the needed functional spaces but an encompassing environment for the IFN community. The new Addition shall have class-A standard building, meeting all ordinances and codes. The design, constructedout of masonry, stucco, metal panel, ornamental metal, metal framing, concrete, and glass, expressing the elements of Islamic architecture in a contemporary and timeless aesthetic fit for its function formand place.
The project will soon be submitted for planning approval by the City.

The building is meant to be a storm shelter for the community during extreme weather conditions.
